The Champions for Life (CFL) Boys Gymnastics Team, 2009-2010 Season

The CFL Team presently has 4 boys who compete at local meets and meets around New York State. The Gym, its coaches, team members, and their parents, collectively determine the meets in which the team competes for the current season. The Gymnastics season runs from approximately November, to the State Meet in March for Levels 4 through 10. Training occurs throughout the year, with each child being separately assessed in order to determine that child’s appropriate level of competition.

The CFL Team currently consists of two Level 4 gymnasts, Roy and Ryan, and two Level 5 gymnasts, Tommy and Kiernan, with additional non-competing members at various times, currently, Ethan. The CFL Team has recently had as many as six competing team members, Evan, Roy, Ryan, Tommy, Kiernan, and Michael. Team awards are generally available to those teams having at least three team members competing at the same level.

The fees for the Team are assessed by CFL on a monthly basis and are generally determined by the days and number of hours of practice. This fee, however, does not include various items required for competition, which include the following:

• Gymnastics uniform (bodysuit, shorts, leggings, warm up pants, jacket).
• Registration fees for meets (determined by the host gym of the meet).
• USA Gymnastics Membership Card (necessary for meet registration and payable prior to the commencement of the season. See www.usagym.org).
• Coach’s fees for meets (depending upon the number of gymnasts attending), which consist of the following: Payment for coaching, mileage for travel, and coach’s meals.
• Hotel and Travel are the responsibility of each gymnast and their families. Approximately 2 meets per season may necessitate hotel accommodations, depending upon the time of day of competition.

The CFL Team’s goal is to compete approximately once a month, with the season culminating at the New York State Gymnastics Championships, for those athletes who qualify with certain minimum combined all around scores. Most of the CFL Boy’s Meets are on Sundays, starting with an allotment of time for stretching, timed warm-ups, competition, and awards. This Year’s State Meet is at West Point on March 28, 2010. All current CFL competing team members have qualified for the NYS Meet this year.
